Jeanne Lanvin began designing accessories to harmonize her outfits. Her matching day and evening clutches quickly became fashionable.

By 1935 she included a variety of designer handbags in her collections. A discreet monogram was embroided on the flap of the clutch, and the metal clasps on the handbags were stamped with the Lanvin signature.
